Wreaths Across America in Bridgeport
by John P Simko, PER - CEA Coastal District PR Chairman

On Saturday, December 10th at 12Noon at over 600 cemetery's across America more than 100,000 wreaths were laid at Veterans gravesites in a ceremony named "WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA". In Bridgeport, at the Mountain Grove Cemetery the Bridgeport ELKS Lodge #36 held a ceremony to honor our fallen heroes and laid wreaths on their final resting place. With the assistance of the Catholic War Veteran Post 1466, the Bridgeport Police and Army National Guard Engineering Battalion Honor Guards a brief but solemn ceremony was held prior to having lay more than 400 wreaths across the the cemetery.

Sgt. Major Veronesi lead the ELKS, Veterans and American citizens in the 'Pledge of Allegiance" and the singing of our National Anthem. The flags were lowered as Taps were played by a lone bugler.

Bridgeport Lodge PER Matt Frankel organized the event which included gathering donations from ELK lodges from across the State to pay for these wreaths. He gave a brief but poignant speech about these fallen heroes prior to the laying of the wreaths on their grave site. Matt mentioned that we should take the time to read the name of each fallen hero prior to the laying of the wreath and remember that if it was not for them, by giving the ultimate sacrifice, we would not be here. Also in attendance were CEA PSP's Charles Carroll and Alan Baranyai, CEA State Tiler Joseph Trovarelli Jr., DDGER Ed Baranyai Jr., Bridgeport Lodge ER Ed Baranyai, Bridgeport Lodge officers and members. Bridgeport City Council President Tom McCarthy was also present and spoke.
