Hartford Lodge Hosts Victory Celebration

On November 8, 2011, several Hartford Elks Lodge 19 members hosted the City of Hartford’s Democratic victory party in the Lodge’s clubroom.

Lodge Presents Check to Betances School

Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra was a guest at Hartford Lodge No. 19 on November 3rd.  Several Officers and Members were on hand to present the Mayor with a check for $2000 for the Betances School.  The money was raised from the recent Lodge golf tournament.

This year monies raised by the golf tournament also went to the Lodge community services fund and to Portland OR Elk, Scott King's 'Remember The Wounded Ride' project.

Here is a press release from the Mayor's Office about the event:

COMMUNITY VISION; COMMUNITY GIVING
NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOL TO RECEIVE CHECK

---NEWS ADVISORY FOR NOVEMBER 3---

2:30 p.m. --- Check presentation to neighborhood school: Hartford Mayor Pedro E. Segarra, Town and City Clerk John Bazzano, Hartford Elks Lodge #19 Exalted Ruler Bob Benigni along with several lodge officers and trustees, and Betances Early Reading Lab School Principal Dr. Immacula Didier will gather for a check presentation ceremony.

In September 29, 2011, the Hartford Elks, Lodge #19, held a charity golf tournament and raised $2,000 to support and give back to its neighborhood school, the Betances Early Reading Lab on Charter Oak Avenue.

In the midst of the chaos of the storm, this is a nice break to show a positive community contribution to Hartford youth.

The check presentation will be held at the Hartford Elks Lodge #19, 34 Prospect Street in Downtown Hartford. The lodge was founded in 1883 and moved to its current location in 1903. It is one of the largest fraternal organizations in the country and committed to the ideals of charity and patriotism.

Betances School first opened in 1925. First named after former Mayor Richard Kinsella and then renamed in 1985 after Puerto Rican Nationalist Ramon Emeterio Betances to reflect the growing Puerto Rican student population. The mission of this school is to be a literacy institute that provides families with the essential support of language development.

(From Left to Right): Ron Hammar (Trustee and Golf Committee), Robert Benigni (Exalted Ruler), Jennifer Traks (Golf Committee), Drew Piraneo (Trustee and Golf Committee), John Bazzano (Golf Committee Chairman), Ray Smith (PER), Honorable Mayor Pedro E. Segarra, Doug Whinnem (Golf Committee), Betances School Principal Dr. Immacula Didier, Rich Curtiss (Golf Committee), Ed Greca (Golf Committee), PJ Sullivan Sr. (Trustee) and Bob Coffey (Trustee)
