Annual Please Remember Me Fund Raiser Held

The Manchester B.P.O.E. No. 1893 held their annual “Please Remember Me” veterans fund raiser dinner dance on Saturday, November 14. Over 175 people attended. For the last several years, the primary beneficiary of the event has been the Michael J. Dinda house, operated by the Veterans Support Foundation (VSF), located in Manchester. The Dinda house provides transitional housing for homeless and needy veterans. Most recently a handicap ramp was constructed at the house by the Manchester Elks. Holiday meals are also donated in addition to other maintenance services being provided. Additionally, money was raised to support Governor Rell's “Operation Home for the Holidays” project. Two members of the 1st Battalion of the 102nd Infantry Regiment, partially based in Manchester and just recently deployed, were in attendance and will hopefully benefit from the  Governor's project. “Our lodge upholds the motto of the Elks to never forget our veterans and we do this in appreciation of past and present service by all branches of the armed forces.” said Kevin Corcoran, the lodge's Veterans Committee Chairman.

Phil Stender, Exalted Ruler, is presented a flag flown over Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan by 1Lt. Roger Conley of the Governor's Foot Guard

Phil Stender, Exalted Ruler, accepts a proclamation from the Town of Manchester presented by the honorable Mayor Louis Spadaccini with Kevin Corcoran, Veterans Committee Chairman looking on.

Joe Petroski, a member of the 1st Battalion of the 102nd Infantry Regiment deployed the following day, accepts a flag from the lodge.   DJ Pat Carol speaks of his father, Thomas Carol, a member of the naval reserves for four years whose flag is shown in the background, which had been presented to him upon his father's burial, and of his cousin, Terence M. McDermott, 1Lt. of the Green Berets, killed in Vietnam and whose purple heart certificate is displayed in the frame behind Pat.
