The picture above shows Miss Melissa P., 8 year old daughter of Karen and Terry of the Torrington, CT area.  She is holding her entry into the annual Connecticut Elks Drug Awareness Poster Contest.  Melissa placed at the local level sponsored by Torrington Lodge #372.  Her winning poster continued onto district level competition where it placed again.  Melissa's poster was so touching and so original that it placed first in her grade category at the state level.

Debbie Angell, CT Elks State Drug Awareness Chairman with Charles Lusk, Past State President of the CT Elks Association presented Melissa with a copy of her original poster, and a savings bond in the amount of $300.

Melissa, along with her parents and many dignitaries present, was very surprised when Debbie Angell announced that Melissa's poster had been selected "Best Overall" from the state.  Her original poster has been forwarded to Harry Tangen, the Elks National Drug Awareness Director for submission into the next Elks Grand Lodge publication of the Drug Awareness Children's Coloring Book.
