CEA Sponsors Special Olympics
Holiday Sports Classic On November 17th and
18th of 2007, the Connecticut Elks Association sponsored
and assisted in the Connecticut Special Olympics
Volleyball competition and awards at the New Haven
Athletic Center. We had a great weekend and
everyone had a great time.
The Special Olympics Committee would like to thank
Phil Wilson PDD PSP and Bob Curran PDD for the great
opening ceremony. New Britain Lodge for taking
care of the food, because no one went away hungry.
Fairfield Lodge for their help getting everyone thru
registration for the event. The Americanism
Committee and Dave Acanfora PDD for putting together a
great display showing our involvement in Americanism.
The awards to the Special Olympics participants were
given out by State President Buddy Patrizzi and other
members of the Connecticut Elks Association. The
Connecticut Elks were represented by 150 volunteers who
came to help with the event.
The Special Olympics Committee informed us that their
volleyball event has grown into the second largest event
that they run. It is second only to the Summer
Games and they have said that they could not have done
it without the help of the Connecticut Elks!
The 2008 Special Olympics Volleyball competition will
be held on November 22 and 23 again at the New Haven
Sports Facility.
