Ritual Clinic To Be Held At State
Convention |
|
There will be a Ritual Clinic held at the annual Connecticut
Elks Association Convention following the regular business
meeting on Saturday. Any member who would like to see how
the Ritual for initiation should be done can stop by and
observe. The Ritual will be performed in its entirety at
this clinic and there will be a question & answer session
following. More info will be given out at the convention
including time and location. |

Area 1 Lodge Contest
The Area One Lodge Contest is to be held Sunday June 29th at
Woonsockett, Rhode Island Lodge #850 and Connecticut goes on at 4:00pm.
It is a short ride, so come on down for a day of getting to know some of
the Elks from around Area One, and support your state champions
Danielson Lodge #1706. This contest boasts the best of the best in our
area.
Ritual Computer Room Clinic
We are pleased to announce
that there will be a computer room clinic for ritual open to any member
in good standing on Sunday June 22nd in Rhode Island.
The duty of a computer room
judge is to take the score sheets from the floor judges and word judges,
tally up the mistakes and come up with the final individual scores and
the team score. This is how the winner is determined.
Again all that is required is that you are a member in good standing.
If interested please contact your state chairman Peter Nelson at
PGNPER1893@aol.com. A
computer room clinic will be held on June 22nd in Rhode Island.
Location to follow.

What is this Ritual? Why is it so important? It is our
roots and how we all became Elks. Unique and ornate, it distinctly
separates us from other organizations. It was our first inkling that this
Order into which we joined was organized and professional and one which we would
strive to help in its endeavors.
Learning the officer's parts for the initiation does take a
little time, some chairs more than others. Be sure to think of it as
LEARNING your part not MEMORIZING
it!! Just consider for a moment how young you were when you learned the
Pledge of Allegiance or perhaps your bedtime prayers. It takes a little
commitment and the Ritualistic Committee stands ready to assist any Lodge or any
member. Remember,
you will never have another chance to make a good first impression on your new
members! If you want them to be active and further propose new
members, here's your chance to set them off right!
Some tips in learning the Ritual:
Read your part over a few times and take the meaning from
it before trying to commit it to memory. It is much easier to learn
and convey something which you understand rather than memorizing and
regurgitating. If you should happen to stumble in some area, you can
still give the intended meaning of the passage and the candidate will still
be impressed.
Make a cassette tape / CD for yourself which you can use
on your drives to work, to the store, etc. Familiarity is the easiest way to
learn.
Make arrangements to meet with other officers and do some
"run-throughs". It's a lot different in front of someone than it is in
your car and its more beneficial to all!
-
Ask your district Ritual Committeeperson to come down to
your lodge and help pull things together; that's his job!
-
For your District Deputy Visitation: ask the DD for an
outline from the District Deputy detailing his required protocol. Meet
with the Esquire to the District Deputy and/or your Ritual Committeeperson
to go over these requirements.
