Like everyone else in the state and in our country, we're waiting on word about reopening. Reports about June 20th are swirling about, but we obviously have to wait for official notifications and decrees. You will definitely get word about our reopening if you're in the local area. If you don't, please call (860) 749-0946 on or after June 20th to check on our status. If no one answers the phone, please try again later.

FLAG DAY CEREMONY — Our annual Flag Day Ceremony will be held virtually on Sunday, June 14th at 1:00 p.m. This annual ritual is deep-seeded in the Elks organization. Elks Lodges across the country have observed Flag Day on June 14th since 1907. In 1911, the Grand Lodge adopted mandatory observance by every Lodge. The BPOE lobbied political leaders at all levels to make Flag Day a national holiday. President. Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation in 1916 that officially established June 14th as Flag Day. An Act of Congress in 1949 made June 14th our National Flag Day. We will be using the "Houseparty" app for our ceremony. If you would like more information about watching the ceremony online (or on your cell phone or tablet), please contact Esteemed Leading Knight Robin Gill at
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We have some cleaning and housekeeping to do before we reopen, mainly in the downstairs areas: kitchen, bar, bathrooms, storerooms and downstairs hall; as well as outside areas for leaf-blowing and grass-cutting. If you can donate an hour or two to help us get ready to reopen, please let us know. Please contact any Lodge officer or stop by during the weekend. THANK YOU.
During the shutdown, we're enjoying some Friday Night KENO gatherings at the Lodge. Yes, we're complying with social-distancing guidelines and following sanitary recommendations to stay safe. Hand-sanitizers are available; face masks are your preference. It's BYOB for the time-being and, if volunteers are available, we will be cooking and selling dogs and burgers on the grille for eating outdoors. In addition, some beverages may be sold for consumption outside with meals. Availability may be limited. Please be patient as we navigate the myriad of rules and regulations and be prepared for something that might be totally different from what's written here regarding food and drinks. KENO should be up and running by 6 p.m. on Friday, but feel free to stop by earlier.
BTW: After six weeks of Friday Night KENO, we have given a total of $1,200 back to the Lodge in sales commissions.
Despite the shutdown, we are still conducting virtual Lodge meetings every second and fourth Tuesday. If you would like to tune in, or if you have any business or reports to bring to the Lodge, please contact Danny Letourneau, Robin Gill or Brenda White for more information. We're currently using the "Houseparty" app to connect online.
Elks Care, Elks Share — Please see page 6 of the Antler for a photo and article about how the Enfield Elks are continuing to share with and care about their community during the shutdown.
